Japan hold Australia to 1-1 draw

In Tuesday's World Cup qualifying match in Saitama, Japan rallied to earn a 1-1 draw, denying Australia a historic triumph.
In front of over 60,000 spectators, Australia had never defeated Japan on Japanese soil until just before the hour, when an own goal from Shogo Taniguchi handed the visiting team an unexpected lead.
Eight minutes later, Cameron Burgess equalized with an own goal at the other end, giving Japan a point that puts them atop Group C with 10 points from four games.
