Ex-Palace defender Popovic named Australia coach

With Graham Arnold's departure, Tony Popovic, a former Crystal Palace defender, has been named Australia's head coach.
Following a shock 1-0 home loss against Bahrain and a draw against Indonesia in World Cup qualification earlier in September, Arnold announced his resignation last Friday, ending his six-year tenure in the position.
Australia is now ranked fifth in Asia as a result of those results; only the top two teams advance automatically to the 2026 World Cup.
