With seven minutes remaining and a 1-0 lead, Chile's flawless football run was shattered as they were scored on for the first time during the competition. Brazil prevailed in penalty shootouts following a goalless overtime period and a 1-1 draw in the 90th minute.

With nary a single goal against them over the approximately seven and a half hours of play at the 2023 Pan American Games, Chile was playing the game of a lifetime. Ronald Cardoso of Brazil scored with seven minutes remaining in the game, ending Chile's hopes of winning the gold medal in men's football at the Pan American Games.
