Adelaide United Claims Historic A-League Women Win

Adelaide United`s 1-0 victory over Western United marks their first A-League Women Finals Series win, highlighted by McNamara`s goal.

Adelaide United achieved a landmark victory in the A-League Women Finals Series, securing their first-ever win with a 1-0 triumph over Western United in an Elimination Final on April 27, 2025. The decisive moment came in the 24th minute when defender McNamara scored a powerful header from a set-piece delivery, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

The match was marked by early challenges for Western United, including an ankle injury to Claudia Mihocic just nine minutes in. Adelaide`s Dylan Holmes also faced a setback, requiring treatment for a facial injury after a free-kick struck her nose in the 16th minute. Despite these hurdles, Adelaide nearly doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Lucia Leon`s shot struck the woodwork, with Holmes missing the rebound opportunity.

Western United`s captain, Chloe Berryhill, showcased her resilience, surviving a collision with goalkeeper Claudia Jenkins in the 35th minute and later hitting the post with a deflected effort during seven minutes of first-half stoppage time. As the match progressed, the intensity remained high, with both teams battling fiercely for a place in the next round of the finals.

As of now, the upcoming match between Central Coast Mariners and Canberra United on April 28, 2025, remains without reported scores or player statistics. The league standings currently show Melbourne City FC leading the pack, followed closely by Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United in third place.
