Phoenix Break Winless Streak Against Jets

Wellington Phoenix`s 2-1 victory over Newcastle Jets ends their winless run in the A-League, with key performances from Barbarouses and Oluwayemi.

Wellington Phoenix ended their winless streak in the Isuzu UTE A-League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium. Kosta Barbarouses and Kazuki Nagasawa found the net in the first half, giving the Phoenix a commanding 2-0 lead. Despite a controversial own goal that allowed the Jets to pull one back in the second half, Wellington`s defense held strong.

Goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi was pivotal in securing the win, making several crucial saves that frustrated the Jets` attempts to equalize. This victory marks the Phoenix`s sixth win of the season, boosting their confidence as they prepare for a semi-final rematch against Melbourne Victory.

In a parallel match, Melbourne Victory made headlines by achieving their sixth consecutive win, narrowly defeating Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0, courtesy of an own goal by Danika Matos. This victory keeps Melbourne Victory within striking distance of league leaders Melbourne City, who are just two points ahead. The current standings see Auckland FC leading with 46 points, followed by Western United FC with 41 points, and Melbourne City with 40 points.
