Zoe Backstedt Defends Title at 2025 Cyclo-cross Worlds

Zoe Backstedt defended her title at the 2025 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships, leading Great Britain`s success.

Great Britain celebrated a remarkable achievement at the 2025 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships, with Zoe Backstedt successfully defending her under-23 women`s title. Backstedt showcased her exceptional skills, taking an early lead and maintaining her dominance throughout the race. Despite facing challenges, including an early wipeout and a bike change, she extended her lead to finish 26 seconds ahead of Marie Schreiber from Luxembourg, who claimed second place, while Leonie Bentveld from the Netherlands secured third.

In addition to Backstedt`s triumph, her teammates also delivered strong performances. Ella Maclean-Howell and Imogen Wolff finished eighth and ninth, respectively, while Cat Ferguson rounded out the top 15 with a 13th place finish. The junior men`s race featured Oscar Amey and Milo Wills representing Great Britain, with Amey finishing sixth after a race filled with collisions, and Wills impressively taking 10th in his first world championships.

The elite men`s race was dominated by Matthieu van der Poel of the Netherlands, who clinched his seventh elite title with a commanding performance. Wout van Aert of Belgium made a remarkable comeback from an early crash to secure second place, while Thibau Nys, also from Belgium, finished third. British riders Thomas Mein and Cam Mason faced a challenging race, finishing 18th and 26th, respectively.

Great Britain`s success was further highlighted by their victory in the team relay event, bringing their total gold medal count to two at the championships. This event showcased the depth of talent within the British cycling team and their commitment to excellence on the world stage.
