Sam Welsford wins Stage One of the Tour Down Under, while Cameron Mason secures his third cyclocross title.

Sam Welsford has made a stunning impact at the 2025 Tour Down Under, clinching the first stage with an exhilarating sprint finish. Riding for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, Welsford surged ahead 250 meters from the finish line, narrowly defeating British competitors Matthew Brennan from Team Visma and Matthew Walls of Groupama-FDJ. This victory not only earns Welsford the coveted ochre jersey but also marks the first World Tour win for his team this season, giving him a four-second lead heading into the next stage.

The stage featured an early breakaway by local riders Fergus Browning and Zac Marriage, who managed to hold off the peloton until 23 kilometers remained. Browning`s efforts were rewarded as he took the lead in the King of the Mountain classification with 21 points, showcasing the competitive spirit of the event.

In the British Cyclocross National Championships, Cameron Mason has continued his dominance by securing his third consecutive elite title. Meanwhile, Ben Chilton emerged victorious in the under-23 category, further emphasizing the strength of British cyclists in cyclocross competitions.

In the Women’s Tour Down Under, Noemi Rüegg claimed the overall title, demonstrating her prowess with a perfectly timed attack on Willunga Hill during stage 2. Chloé Dygert clinched the final stage, but Rüegg maintained her lead to secure the overall victory, highlighting the fierce competition among female cyclists.
