Tasmania`s Kieran Elliott shines in Sheffield Shield, while Australia prepares for ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Tasmania clinched a thrilling 20-run victory over Victoria in the Sheffield Shield, thanks to a remarkable performance by Kieran Elliott. Elliott dominated the match with a total of 10 wickets, including an impressive 6-84 in the second innings. His efforts were pivotal in helping Tasmania defend a target of 270 runs, moving them off the bottom of the ladder. Gabe Bell also contributed significantly with 3-93, while Victoria`s Peter Handscomb fought valiantly with a score of 93 before being dismissed by Nivethan Radhakrishnan`s catch.

In another Sheffield Shield clash, the Queensland Bulls secured a commanding 188-run win against New South Wales. Queensland`s bowlers, particularly Xavier Bartlett and Michael Neser, played crucial roles in dismantling the NSW batting lineup. Despite a spirited fightback from Josh Philippe, who scored 80, and Jack Edwards with 53, the Queensland bowlers, including Tom Straker and Mark Steketee, ensured a comprehensive victory. This win marked Queensland`s second Shield victory of the season, keeping them firmly in contention on a tightly packed ladder.

Australia is gearing up for a two-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, set for February 12 and 14 at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With significant changes to the squad due to injuries and retirements, players like Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, and Tanveer Sangha have been included. Stand-in captain Steve Smith has indicated that the series will be crucial for finalizing the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
