Bumrah`s Champions Trophy Future in Doubt

Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 is in jeopardy following an injury sustained during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The fast bowler, who excelled throughout the series with an impressive tally of 32 wickets, experienced back spasms on Day 2 of the final Test in Sydney. This injury prevented him from bowling in the crucial fourth innings, raising concerns about his fitness ahead of the tournament.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has assessed Bumrah's chances of making the Champions Trophy squad at a mere 10%. India is required to announce their squad by January 12, although adjustments can be made until February 13. Renowned World Cup-winning physio Ramji Srinivasan has advised caution, suggesting that if there are any doubts regarding Bumrah's fitness, he should not be included in the squad. He emphasized the risk of a stress-related injury, which could necessitate a recovery period of up to six months.

Additionally, Bumrah is unlikely to participate in India's three-match ODI series against England, which begins on February 6, just before the Champions Trophy kicks off on February 19. India's first match in the tournament is scheduled for February 20. The potential absence of Bumrah poses significant challenges for India's pace attack, especially in light of Ravichandran Ashwin's recent retirement and Mohammed Shami's ongoing recovery.
