Australia`s Women Gear Up for 2025 Ashes Showdown

Australia's women's cricket team is gearing up for the highly anticipated Commbank Women's Ashes 2025, a multi-format series against England that kicks off on January 12. The series will consist of three One Day Internationals (ODIs), three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and a day-night Test match. The first ODI will take place at North Sydney Oval in Sydney, followed by matches at CitiPower Centre in Melbourne and Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The T20Is are scheduled for the SCG in Sydney, Manuka Oval in Canberra, and Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, while the day-night Test will be held at the MCG in Melbourne from January 30 to February 2.

The Australian squad is led by captain Alyssa Healy and includes notable players such as Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, and Tahlia McGrath. The team is motivated by a sense of urgency following their previous Ashes retention in 2023, which left them with a 'hollow' feeling. England's squad, captained by Heather Knight, features a strong lineup including Tammy Beaumont and Sophie Ecclestone.

In preparation for the series, England's warm-up match against the Governor-General's XI in Sydney was unfortunately washed out, preventing the visitors from getting any batting practice. Meanwhile, the Australian men's cricket team is facing its own challenges as captain Pat Cummins deals with an ankle injury that may affect his participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Cummins will miss the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka due to the birth of his second child and to manage his injury.

The Australian Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour includes Steve Smith as captain and features a mix of experienced players and newcomers, such as 21-year-old Cooper Connolly. The team will focus on spin options to adapt to the conditions in Sri Lanka, with the series set to compete for the Warne-Muralidaran Trophy starting on January 29 and February 6 at Galle.
