Gillespie Quits as Pakistan Test Coach

Jason Gillespie, the former Australian bowler, has made a shocking decision to resign as the Test coach of the Pakistan cricket team. This move comes after a series of disagreements with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PC, particularly over the dismissal of his assistant coach, Tim Nielsen.

Gillespie, who was appointed on a two-year deal in April, expressed his frustration over the lack of communication and involvement in team selections. He stated that his role had been reduced to merely `hitting catches` on game days, which significantly diminished his ability to effectively coach the team.

The final straw was the PCB's decision to axe Tim Nielsen, Gillespie's senior assistant coach, without any prior communication. Gillespie emphasized the positive feedback Nielsen had received from the players and the coaching group, making the decision even more perplexing.

Despite developing a strong relationship with the players, especially Test captain Shan Masood, and achieving notable successes, including a series win against England, Gillespie felt his position had become untenable. He highlighted the talent within Pakistan cricket but noted the challenges in nurturing and developing it due to the PCB's management issues.

Gillespie's resignation follows a similar exit by white-ball coach Gary Kirsten in October, who also cited similar reasons for his departure.
