Joe Root`s unbeaten 166 leads England to ODI series victory, surpassing Eoin Morgan`s record in a thrilling match.

Joe Root etched his name into the annals of cricket history, becoming England`s leading run-scorer in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during a thrilling second ODI against the West Indies at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. With an unbeaten 166, Root propelled England to a nail-biting three-wicket victory, chasing down a formidable target of 309 and finishing at 312-7 in 50 overs.

The West Indies had set the stage with a competitive total of 308 all out, highlighted by Keacy Carty`s impressive century of 103 and Shai Hope`s solid contribution of 78. However, it was Root`s masterclass that stole the show, showcasing his ability to anchor the innings and deliver under pressure.

On the bowling front, Alzarri Joseph shone for the West Indies, claiming four wickets, while England`s Adil Rashid matched him with four of his own, adding to the drama of the encounter. This victory not only secured the series for England but also marked a significant milestone for Harry Brook, who led the team as the full-time white-ball skipper for the first time. The series victory follows England`s commanding 238-run win in the first ODI, where they posted a staggering 400/8 and bowled out the West Indies for just 162.
