England Stars Shine in County Championship and Wisden Awards

England`s cricket scene shines with Wisden awards, Rehan Ahmed`s century, and Surrey`s new women`s team debut.

Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith, and Sophie Ecclestone have been honored as Wisden Cricketers of the Year, showcasing their exceptional performances. In the 2025 County Championship`s third round, Rehan Ahmed scored his second first-class century for Leicestershire, demonstrating resilience in tough conditions. Saqib Mahmood made an impact for Lancashire, taking two wickets over 22 overs, while John Turner also claimed two wickets during his loan spell with the team, dismissing Ian Holland and Louis Kimber.

However, Shoaib Bashir continues to struggle, remaining wicketless with an average exceeding 150, raising concerns about England`s spin selection ahead of the summer Tests. In women`s cricket, Surrey`s new professional team, featuring Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Alice Monaghan, is set to kick off their campaign against Somerset, retaining 19 players from the South East Stars squad. The England Women’s One Day Cup 2025 will run from April 23 to September 13, replacing the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Cameron Green made a notable return from injury, scoring a century for Gloucestershire against Kent, earning accolades from coach Mark Alleyne.
