Mali captain banned for confronting referee

Mali captain Hamari Traore has received a four-game suspension after being found guilty of unsporting behaviour towards a referee.

The 32-year-old defender was sent off immediately after his team's quarter-final loss to Ivory Coast at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on February 3.


Traore had to be pulled away by teammates after a dispute with Egyptian referee Mohamed Adel as the Eagles fell 2-1 in extra time, with both player and official blatantly pushing one other.
