Mali booked a quarter-final meeting with hosts

At the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Mali secured a quarterfinal matchup with the hosts, Ivory Coast, by managing to defeat Burkina Faso.

The Eagles took the lead in the third minute thanks to an own goal from Edmond Tapsoba, and Mali had other opportunities to extend their lead prior to halftime.


Lassine Sinayoko did make it 2-0 early in the second half with a finish past goalkeeper Herve Koffi's knees, but Bertrand Traore gave the Stallions a goal back shortly before the hour mark with a penalty kick.
