Nittany Lions Fall to Buckeyes in January Struggles

Penn State Nittany Lions lost 83-64 to Ohio State, marking their third straight Big Ten defeat.

Penn State Nittany Lions faced a disappointing defeat against the Ohio State Buckeyes, losing 83-64 at Rec Hall. Despite their strong home record of 10-1, the Nittany Lions were outmatched in every aspect of the game. Ohio State controlled the tempo, leading for over 36 minutes and establishing a 10-point lead by halftime.

The Buckeyes continued to dominate in the second half, launching a 13-5 run that extended their lead to 17 points. Although Penn State managed to cut the deficit to nine with 12 minutes remaining, they lacked the energy to mount a significant comeback. Ohio State`s rebounding prowess was evident, as they outrebounded Penn State 41-23, including a staggering 13-4 advantage on the offensive boards, which translated into 18 second-chance points compared to just four for the Nittany Lions.

Yanic Konan Niederhauser stood out for Penn State, scoring a Big Ten-high 21 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Other contributors included Ace Baldwin Jr. with 10 points and six assists, Zach Hicks with 13 points, and Nick Kern Jr. who finished with a perfect 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting. For Ohio State, John Mobley Jr. led the scoring with 19 points, while Bruce Thornton added 17.

This loss marked Penn State`s third consecutive defeat in the Big Ten and their seventh in the last eight games, leaving them with a 2-7 record for January and an overall record of 13-9, including a 3-8 standing in the conference. The Nittany Lions will look to rebound in their next matchup against Minnesota on February 4 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
