Houston Cougars Extend Win Streak with West Virginia Victory

Houston Cougars continued their impressive run in the Big 12 Conference, defeating West Virginia Mountaineers 70-54 at the Fertitta Center. This victory marks Houston's ninth consecutive win, improving their overall record to 13-3 and maintaining an unbeaten 5-0 in the Big 12. The Cougars also celebrated their 32nd straight home win, the longest active home win streak in the nation.

J'Wan Roberts was the standout performer for Houston, scoring a season-high 22 points on an efficient 10-of-13 shooting. His performance comes on the heels of reaching his 1,000th career point in the previous game. LJ Cryer contributed significantly with 18 points, including five 3-pointers, while Emanuel Sharp added 14 points with three shots from beyond the arc.

West Virginia, now 12-4 overall and 3-2 in the Big 12, saw Aman Hansberry score 16 points, all in the second half, and Javon Small contribute 13 points, although he did not score after halftime. The game started with Houston taking a solid 40-27 lead at halftime. West Virginia made a push in the second half, narrowing the gap to 51-48, but Houston responded with a decisive 14-0 run, limiting West Virginia to just six points for the remainder of the game.

Defensively, Houston forced 12 turnovers from West Virginia, converting those into 25 points. The Cougars outscored the Mountaineers 24-16 in the paint and shot 49% from the field, along with 42.3% from three-point range. In contrast, West Virginia managed a shooting percentage of 44.2% from the field and 40.9% from beyond the arc. Despite Ja'Vier Francis leaving the game with an ankle injury, Houston's strong defense and timely shooting ensured their victory, keeping them tied atop the Big 12 standings with Iowa State and Arizona.
