Loh Kean Yew delivered a remarkable performance at the Badminton Asia Championships 2025, held in Ningbo, China, by defeating world number one Shi Yuqi in the quarter-finals. The Singaporean player, ranked 17th globally, triumphed in a thrilling match that ended with scores of 21-19, 13-21, and 21-16. This victory marks a significant upset, considering Loh`s previous record of 2-4 against Shi. He now advances to the semi-finals, where he will face Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand, who also secured his spot by overcoming Japan`s Nishimoto Kenta.

In the women`s singles, China`s Chen Yufei showcased her dominance by defeating Japan`s Akane Yamaguchi in straight games, 21-19, 21-13, to move into the semi-finals. Meanwhile, India`s mixed doubles campaign concluded as Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila fell to Hong Kong`s Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet with scores of 22-20, 21-13. Malaysia`s mixed doubles duo Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai also faced defeat, losing to Indonesia`s Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Pasaribu, 15-21, 11-21. The tournament continues with more exciting matches, including the men`s doubles quarter-finals featuring Malaysian pairs Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and Aaron Chia-Sooh Wooi Yik.
