Carlton Blues Shake Up Defensive Line with Silvagni and Kemp Swaps

In a significant strategic move, the Carlton Blues are set to alter their defensive and forward lines for the 2025 AFL season. Coach Michael Voss has announced that Jack Silvagni, who missed the entire 2024 season due to an ACL injury, will be shifted from his usual forward position to the backline. This move is reminiscent of his father, Stephen Silvagni, who was a legendary full-back and a member of the AFL Team of the Century.

Silvagni, a versatile player who has also filled roles as a back-up ruck and midfielder, will be tasked with supporting star tall Jacob Weitering in the backline. This change aims to address the Blues' need for key defensive support, particularly in handling the opposition's second key forward.

Conversely, Brodie Kemp, who has often been undersized in the backline but showed impressive athleticism, will move to the forward line. Kemp's performance late in the 2024 season, where he scored four goals against West Coast and played a negating role on All-Australian interceptor Jeremy McGovern, has convinced the coaching panel of his potential in this new role.

Additionally, youngster Ollie Hollands may see a permanent positional change after a strong pre-season. Hollands, who has shown good drive and bounce from the back half and has also played on the ball, is among several emerging players that Voss hopes will have a greater presence in the team in 2025.
