Manchester Marathon Crowns Sharp and McCormick Champions

Matt Sharp and Tessa McCormick won the Manchester Marathon, while Tigst Assefa set a world record in London.

Matt Sharp of Ryde Harriers and Tessa McCormick from Vale Royal AC emerged victorious at the Manchester Marathon, which hosted the England Marathon Championships on April 30, 2025. Sharp clinched the men`s title with a remarkable time of 2:17:22, while McCormick secured the women`s championship in 2:34:53. The event was a massive success, drawing an impressive 36,000 participants, showcasing the growing popularity of marathon running in England.

In the London Marathon, Ethiopian runner Tigst Assefa made headlines by setting a women’s-only world record with a stunning time of 2:15:50. The top English female finisher was Rose Harvey from Clapham Chasers, who finished ninth with a time of 2:251.
