Panathinaikos Triumphs in Game 1 of Greek Finals!

Panathinaikos dominates Olympiacos 80-68 in Game 1 of the Greek Finals, drawing massive TV ratings and escalating tensions.

In a thrilling opener to the Greek Basketball League Finals, Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens claimed an impressive 80-68 victory over their fierce rivals, Olympiacos Piraeus. The atmosphere at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) crackled with tension and excitement, as fans witnessed a dominant performance from Panathinaikos, who now lead the series 1-0.

The game not only showcased the skill and determination of the players but also drew massive attention from viewers across Greece. Averaging 587,000 viewers and reaching a total of 1,366,000 nationwide, the broadcast on ERT3 achieved a remarkable 15% average share, securing its position as the second most-watched channel during the telecast. Notably, the ratings soared among younger demographics, with a staggering 34% share among men aged 18-34 and a leading 19.3% share in the 18-54 category.

The rivalry intensified further as Panathinaikos majority shareholder Dimitris Giannakopoulos was ejected from Game 2 due to escalating tensions, following provocative chants from Olympiacos fans. His removal, prompted by a gesture towards the stands, underscored the fierce emotions surrounding this storied matchup. With Game 2 set for June 4, anticipation builds as fans eagerly await the next chapter in this gripping series.
