Cameroon U19 Boys Beat Gambia To Book Their Place in World Championship Showpiece

 

 

Abuja, Nigeria, March 7, 2021 – Cameroon beat Gambia in style as they set out for world showpiece 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-16) on Sunday at the indoor sport hall in Abuja. 

 

Cameroon started quickly with a run of points. The intensity of the match lit as both side went for blocks. Cameroon took a narrow lead 8-6, and continued to break the Gambian defense with a 16-11 margin at the second technical timeout. 

 

Gambia weren’t able to close the gap as Cameroon increased their lead. Thunderous spikes, and hit in the 2m line regularly – Gambia were defenseless. It was a slow catch up as Cameroon closed the set out confidently 25-18.

 

The Gambia regained their composure and came out firing in the 2nd set, with strong attacks. They were up 8-5.  The game continued to gain momentum with an ace from Cameroon to lead 12-11. 

 

Gambia effected substitution to stop the Cameroonian prowess but it was too late as they trailed 16-12. And sealed the second set 25-19.

 

Cameroon took the lead comfortably in the 3th set, leading 6-1. The Gambians were defenseless and they cannot stop Cameroon’s attack.

 

It was 8-3 for Cameroon at the first technical timeout.  Cameroon raced ahead and Gambia’s frustration resulted in them losing points. A fast spike from Gambia gave them a point, but it was little consolation as Cameroon nailed a headshot on match point to win the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
