This preseason match also marked the debut of Inter Miami`s new head coach, Javier Mascherano, who is looking to lead the team to success in the upcoming season. Inter Miami`s first league match is scheduled for February 22 against New York City FC, and they will also compete in the Concacaf Champions Cup against Sporting Kansas City on February 18.
In transfer news, Toronto FC has made a significant move by transferring winger Thiago Andrade to Cerezo Osaka of the J1 League in Japan. This transfer comes just a month after Andrade was acquired in a trade with San Diego FC, who selected him during the 2025 MLS Expansion Draft.
MLS has introduced several roster rule changes for the 2025 season, which include allowing cash trades between teams, a second contract buyout option, and adjustments to the summer transfer window dates. Additionally, there are new guidelines for off-roster Homegrown players and the opening of Designated Player slots when loaning out players. The Primary Transfer Window will run from January 31 to April 23, while the Secondary Transfer Window is set for July 24 to August 21. Teams must declare their preferred Roster Construction Path by February 21, with the option to change it between July 1 and August 21.
