npfl: Nasarawa United Faces Heavy Penalties in NPFL, 01/2025, English, Nigeria

Nasarawa United has been dealt a significant blow in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following serious infractions during their match against Rivers United. The NPFL board has imposed a three-point deduction and a reduction of three goals from the club's tally. In addition to the points and goals penalty, Nasarawa United has been fined N3 million for failing to maintain proper conduct among their team and fans, allowing encroachment onto the pitch, and for the assault on match referee Musibaudeen Ibrahim.

As a further consequence of these actions, Nasarawa United will be required to play their next home matches behind closed doors when the league resumes on January 25. The Lafia City Stadium will remain closed to fans indefinitely until security measures are improved, highlighting the league's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all participants.

In terms of player performance, the current top scorers in the NPFL include O. Martins from Lobi Stars and Sunday Megwo from Abia Warriors, both of whom have netted six goals this season. Other notable players contributing to the league's scoring charts hail from clubs such as Kano Pillars, Kwara United, and El Kanemi Warriors, showcasing a competitive landscape in the league.
