Victor Wembanyama Named Western Conference Player of the Week

Victor Wembanyama, the talented forward-center of the San Antonio Spurs, has been named the NBA's Western Conference Player of the Week for the week ending December 22, 2024. This honor marks his first Player of the Week award in his career.

In the week leading up to this recognition, Wembanyama put on an impressive display, averaging 36.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and a remarkable 7.0 blocks per game. His performance was highlighted by two significant milestones achieved in December. On Saturday night, he became the only player in NBA history to record 10 blocks and four three-pointers in the same game, and he also made his 200th career three-pointer, reaching this mark faster than notable shooters like Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Ray Allen.

Wembanyama's defensive prowess is equally impressive, as he has already recorded more career blocks than 91.1% of all players in NBA history, despite playing less than 100 career games. His current season averages include 3.8 blocks per game, which could place him among the top single-season block averages in NBA history.

Wembanyama shares this week's Player of the Week honors with Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, who was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Cunningham averaged 27.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 12.7 assists per game during the same period.
