Owen`s Century Powers Hurricanes to Victory

In a thrilling match of the KFC Big Bash League (BBL) 14, Hobart Hurricanes secured a commanding eight-wicket victory over the Perth Scorchers at Ninja Stadium. The match was highlighted by a stellar performance from Hobart opener Mitch Owen, who blasted his maiden BBL century.

Owen's innings was nothing short of spectacular, as he scored 101 not out from 64 balls, including nine boundaries and five sixes. This performance was a significant turnaround for the 23-year-old, who had previously managed only 89 runs in 14 T20 games at an average of 12.71.

Alongside Owen, West Indies star Shai Hope contributed 38 runs, and the duo formed a crucial 101-run partnership to set up the Hurricanes' win. Despite Perth taking the game into the final over, Owen's century sealed the victory for Hobart with four balls to spare.

The Hurricanes' win was also bolstered by outstanding bowling from Riley Meredith, who picked up 3-27 and was involved in a run-out during Perth's innings. This victory marked Hobart's first win against the Scorchers in Hobart since January 1, 2013.

In another notable development, teenage batting sensation Sam Konstas has been named in Australia's squad for the Boxing Day Test against India. At just 19 years and 85 days old, Konstas could become the youngest Australian to earn a Baggy Green in 14 years if he makes his debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
