Liverpool, Arsenal Advance in EFL Cup

In the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup, two Premier League giants, Liverpool and Arsenal, secured their spots in the semi-finals with hard-fought victories.

Liverpool edged past a managerless Southampton side with a 2-1 win at St Mary’s. Darwin Nunez opened the scoring in the 24th minute, capitalizing on a long pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Harvey Elliott doubled the lead just before the interval, marking his first start of the season with a goal. Despite a late surge from Southampton, with Cameron Archer reducing the deficit in the 59th minute, Liverpool held on to their lead. Elliott's performance was particularly noteworthy, earning him the player of the match accolade.

At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal came from behind to defeat Crystal Palace 3-2. Palace took an early lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta, but Arsenal's second-half resurgence, led by Gabriel Jesus, turned the game around. Jesus scored a hat-trick, with crucial assists from substitutes Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka. Despite a late goal from former Gunner Eddie Nketiah, Arsenal managed to secure the win and advance to the semi-finals.
