Rivers United Regains NPFL Top Spot

Rivers United has reclaimed the top position in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) following their 2-1 victory over Kwara United on Sunday. The match, played in Port Harcourt, saw Rivers United come back from a goal down, thanks to second-half goals from Timothy Zechariah and David Benjamin.

Coach Finidi George, despite the win, remains cautious and does not focus on the league table, emphasizing the tight competition. `I don’t look at the league table because the difference is not much, this week you’re on top and if you fail to win, you slip,` Finidi said.

Rivers United's closest challenger, Remo Stars, played a 1-1 draw against Ikorodu City in Lagos, allowing Rivers United to maintain a two-point lead at the top of the table.

In other NPFL matches, Niger Tornadoes had a significant win, thrashing Sunshine Stars 4-1 in their Matchday 17 fixture. This victory was attributed to the collective effort of the team, according to coach Majin Mohammed.
