42 years after the Falklands War, the disputed archipelago remains a topic of contention. During a Copa Libertadores quarter-final match, River Plate supporters displayed a flag representing the Falkland Islands, which prompted the South American Football Confederation to prohibit its display. The flag bore the message, "Argentine Territory, River does not forget." The Falklands War occurred from April to June 1982 between Argentina and the UK, resulting in significant casualties. Argentina still claims sovereignty over the islands, leading to ongoing tensions.
