In their first Champions League match under new manager Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich delivered a historic performance. On Tuesday, September 17, they routed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 at the Allianz Arena. Harry Kane was the star of the show, scoring four goals, including three penalties, to break Wayne Rooney's record for the most Champions League goals by an English player. Kane now has 33 Champions League goals. Other scorers for Bayern included Michael Olise, who scored twice on his Champions League debut, Leroy SanƩ, and Leon Goretzka, who scored in stoppage time.
This match marked the highest total goals in a single Champions League match since the competition's current format, and it was Bayern's biggest European victory since their 10-0 win over Anorthosis Famagusta in the 1983-84 UEFA Cup.
