Valentina Petrillo has been chosen to represent Italy in Para-athletics in Paris, making her the first openly transgender athlete to compete at the Paralympic Games.

The 50-year-old sprinter transitioned in 2019 and now competes in the women's T12 classification, which is for athletes with visual impairments.
