Novak Djokovic pulls out of the Cincinnati Open

Less than a week after winning his first Olympic gold medal, Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, 37, withdrew from the Cincinnati Open on Thursday.

His departure was announced at the Cincinnati tournament. This year's competition, which begins next week, is a hard-court warm-up for the U.S. Open and is being won by Djokovic, who took first place there last year.

The final Grand Slam event of the year gets underway in New York on August 26. August 22 is the draw date.
