Williamson turns down New Zealand contract

Kane Williamson resigned as the Black Caps' white-ball captain after declining a new central contract with New Zealand Cricket.

Though he still feels "passionate" about playing international cricket, the 33-year-old said he also wants to "pursue an overseas opportunity" during the home summer. He is currently New Zealand's all-time highest Test run-scorer.

The centrally contracted players in New Zealand must be available to participate in the national T20 Super Smash competition as well as international cricket.
