Cavani retires from international football

Edinson Cavani, a striker for Boca Juniors in Uruguay, declared his retirement from international football on Thursday.

After winning the 2011 Copa America, 37-year-old Cavani sits second in Uruguay's all-time scoring list (58) and most caps (136), behind only Luis Suarez. He made his friendly debut in February 2008 against Colombia in a 2-2 tie.

"I would have a thousand things to say, tell, and remember from those undoubtedly precious years, but today I want to dedicate myself to this new stage of my career and give everything where I have to be," Cavani posted on Instagram.
