Alvarez beats Munguia on points to defend titles

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez won the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF super-middleweight titles in Las Vegas by defeating Jaime Munguia, a fellow Mexican, via unanimous points decision.

After being struck by a right uppercut in the fourth round, Munguia was felled for the first time in his career. Alvarez then won on points, with the judges scoring the bout 117-110, 116-111, and 115-112.

Munguia's unbeaten record was broken in his 44th fight, while Alvarez's career record now stands at 61 victories, two draws, and two losses.
