Santos banned for faking age in 2012

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Friday that Dominican sprinter Luguelin Santos has been banned for three years and has had his gold medal from the World Junior Championships taken away from him due to age-manipulation violations.

Now thirty-one, Santos took home the gold in the 400 meters at the Barcelona 2012 World Junior Championships.

Santos "admitted to competing in the 2012 age-group championships with a passport showing a falsified date of birth ā€“ Nov. 12, 1993 ā€“ when in fact he was born on that date in 1992," according to a statement released by the AIU.
