Cheptonon doğumlu atlet, 2006'da 71m'lik atışıyla Kenyan gençler rekorunu kırıp, 2008'de ilk ulusal şampiyonluğunu kazandı. O zamandan beri, 34 yaşındaki güçlü sporcu üst üste başarılar elde ediyor. Yego, 4 kez Afrika şampiyonu, 1 kez dünya şampiyonu, bir kere olimpiyat madalyalı ve 2 kez Afrika Oyunları galibi olmuştur.
