Hodgkinson retains European title despite illness

Despite battling illness, Keely Hodgkinson successfully defended her European 800m title with a commanding victory, and on the last night of competition in Rome, Great Britain also won the gold in the women's 4x100m relay.

In the end, Hodgkinson, 22, maintained her lead and outlasted her competitors to win in 1 minute, 58.65 seconds.

But the Olympic silver medallist and two-time world champion later disclosed that she had been ill the day before.
