Rivers United Leads NPFL After Thrilling Win

Rivers United has regained the top spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) following a dramatic 2-1 victory over Kwara United on Sunday. The match, played in Port Harcourt, saw Rivers United come back from a goal down, thanks to second-half goals from Timothy Zechariah and David Benjamin.

Coach Finidi George praised his team's spirit and scoring ability, noting that it had been a while since they scored two goals in a game. Despite the win, Finidi remains cautious, emphasizing that the league table can change quickly and that they cannot afford to be complacent.

In other NPFL action, Niger Tornadoes had a resounding 4-1 win over Sunshine Stars. Coach Majin Mohammed attributed the victory to collective effort and strategic changes in the team lineup, which allowed some players to rest and others to seize their opportunities.

Rivers United now holds a two-point lead over their closest challengers, Remo Stars, who drew 1-1 against Ikorodu City. The league is heating up as teams approach the end of the first round, with each match becoming crucial in the battle for the top spots.
