Lewis Church Triumphs at England Athletics Indoor Champs

Lewis Church of Tonbridge showcased his exceptional talent at the England Athletics Indoor Championships held in Sheffield, clinching the senior men`s heptathlon title with a remarkable score of 5778 points. Under the guidance of coach David Hull, Church not only secured the championship but also set a personal best and achieved the 12th all-time best score in the event. His standout performance included a personal best of 8.21 seconds in the 60H and a pole vault clearance of 4.60 meters.

In a closely contested battle for second place, Sammy Ball from Reading, coached by Rafer Joseph, finished with a personal best of 5707 points, highlighted by a strong 200m performance clocked at 2:40.20.

The under-20 men`s heptathlon saw Sam Wright from Chelmsford emerge victorious with a total of 5129 points, narrowly edging out Luke Pichler from Blyth, who scored 5105 points. Pichler`s impressive 60H time of 8.29 seconds and high jump clearance of 1.90 meters were notable, but Wright`s consistent performance ultimately secured him the gold.

The championships also witnessed several age group records being shattered. Evan Grime from Salford H improved the U17 16-year-old best 1500m time to 3:49.47, adding to his earlier UK No.1 3000m record of 8:23.76 set this winter. Kojo Kyereme from Shaftesbury Barnet set an M50 record with a time of 8:41.06, while Harry Wakefield, also from Salford H, clocked an impressive 1:52.45 for an M35 best.
