Plapp Claims Third Time Trial Title in Perth

Luke Plapp has secured his third career time trial national title at the 2025 AusCycling Road National Championships held in Perth, Western Australia. Competing in the men’s 38.4-kilometre race around Bold Park, Plapp clocked a remarkable time of 46 minutes and 33 seconds, achieving an impressive average speed of 50kph. He finished eight seconds ahead of Jay Vine, who made a strong effort in the final lap but could not close the gap.

Plapp maintained a lead of approximately 20 seconds at every intermediate split, showcasing his dominance throughout the race. Kelland O’Brien from Team Jayco AlUla finished in third place, trailing Plapp by 54.94 seconds. Other notable performances came from Chris Harper and Michael Hepburn, both from Team Jayco AlUla, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

In a surprising turn, local favorite Luke Durbridge did not record a result after a miscommunication with his team car caused him to miss the final corner. Plapp's victory marks his sixth win in elite national championships since 2021, solidifying his status in the sport.

In the elite women’s event, Brodie Chapman claimed the national title with a time of 39:53:51 over the 28km course, while Amber Pate from Liv AlUla Jayco secured second place with a time of 40:26:22. Jay Vine expressed satisfaction with his performance, indicating a positive outlook for the upcoming road nationals and the Santos Tour Down Under. Plapp shared his joy over the win, emphasizing his passion for training and competing in national time trial championships.
